When Things Aren’t What You Expect — Don’t Panic!

Last week, I was on my way to a new business network meeting and I was jammin’ along enjoying my tunes when something happened, something that has happened in my business and in the businesses of my clients too. I all of sudden “thought” I was lost. I was so sure I knew where I was going. I had looked at the map before I left. I knew EXACTLY where I was headed and how I was going to get there. BUT — That’s when it happened! Things started to look different than I expected. My mind began to race. Did I miss the turn off? Had I gone too far? Was I enjoying my music too much and not paying attention? Oh man, what if I miss this meeting? What could that do to my coaching reputation, let alone the time and gas I would have wasted? That’s when…

Play BIG!

I recently posted on my Coach Erin Facebook page about the whole “Play Big” campaign that is soooo popular. It got several women thinking. Including one business owner who messaged me her big AH-HA moment … Take a look — maybe her AH-HA moment will inspire you. “Erin, you posted recently on the Coach Erin Facebook page about the whole playing bigger thing. What an AH-HA moment. I realized I can continue to follow the advice of some of the “experts” in business like build a large mailing list, focus on working with more people at one time vs one on one, and aim to make tens of thousands of dollars a month (doing things that don’t necessarily FEEL good and we know where that leads) OR I can trust my own judgement, decide what is best for me and build a business that I LOVE participating in. (WOW that was a…

Best and worst of being a coach - blog title

Best and Worst of Being a Coach?

The best thing about being a business coach is to watching the inspiration you offer transform into confidence and courage. Then seeing woman implement it all into action. Watching as someone becomes empowered to create more success in their business and in their lives. Nothing is better than that!  It’s what keeps me going. The toughest thing about being a coach is the clients who listen to your wisdom, jot down the knowledge, grab hold of the insights and then just leave it all on pieces of paper and never implement it. Then you hear them say “it doesn’t work.” “I’m not getting clients.” “I need to make more money.” So, as a coach I offer more knowledge, insights, wisdom.. do more conversation, more digging, more confidence building only to watch them once again leave the ideas, solutions and strategies on pages in a notebook or even worse — throw them out without ever implementing them with…

No New Clients? Now What?

Something I commonly hear from my coaching clients is “I’m not getting clients.” This often leads to more questions like, “Am I in the right niche?” “Am I charging too much?” “Am I not marketing right?” And so on. Have you ever been here? Well, here are a few questions to help you think things through and answer a few of those questions that keep stirring in your head… 1. Are you still LOVING talking about your niche topic? Do you still find yourself immersed in information about your niche? Are you continuing to come up with new topics and new ideas related to your niche? Do you watch T.V. shows and think.. I could use that? If so, then I would say it’s likely the niche is right. 2. Have you done as much marketing as you used to or have you slowed down your marketing? If yes, I…

Affirmations are important - blog title

Affirmations are Important

I believe affirmations are important because I have seen in my own self, my own business and the businesses of my clients what can happen when women use affirmations. By first believing in her own self, she creates a community of believers and those believers become clients, customers and advocates whose lives and businesses are improved because of her product or service. Thereby improving the world one person, one customer, one service/product at a time. It takes persistence to believe in yourself and own your spot in this world…. it’s the kind of persistence necessary to success. “The most critical thing an entrepreneur needs more than anything else is confidence, If that’s missing, I don’t care if you have a plan and all that stuff, you’re dead in the water. You can lose your edge right away, and selling value becomes 10 times more difficult.” ~ Barry Farber Affirmations are a tool…

What happens in a first coaching session?

What happens before your first business coaching session with me, Coach Erin ? Well let’s see — Before any session with me you will complete a prep form which has anywhere about 35 questions about yourself, your life and your business. The prep can take up to 45 min to complete. It’s almost like getting 45 minutes of coaching. In fact, many of my clients report having many a-ha’s and new ideas just from completing the prep. This prep helps me gain a baseline understanding about you as well as get an idea of what you want to gain from coaching and what impact that will make on your life and your business. That way we’re ready to dive in and get coaching. We’ll start with me going over what I understand from your prep form to make sure I’ve got a clear picture. Then we’ll to work gaining clarity on what you want to accomplish…

10 Bits of Business Wisdom

10 bits of business wisdom for women from me, Coach Erin   1. There is not one way to create a successful business 2. You don’t have to do everything and you certainly don’t have to do it all at once 3. Just because something works for someone else doesn’t mean it is right for your business 4. Just because others “look” like the have it all together doesn’t mean they really do, don’t allow yourself to be fooled into thinking “they” are better than you. 5. Most likely it is your fear of success that is going to be one of your biggest challenges to over come BUT you’ll think it’s your fear of failure more often than not. 6. Your self esteem has more to do with the success of your business than your branding or marketing. 7. If you’re not tracking your income and expenses —…

My First Business Mistake

UGH!  I have to say I sure wish the title of this could be “the only big mistake I made as a new business owner” but alas, it does not.  It say’s my first BIG mistake.. which should infer to you that there are other BIG mistakes as well as small mistakes and well heck.. let’s just be honest, there are mistakes of all sizes in between too.  BUT, this was the first mistake and a costly one at that. You see, the mistake was thinking that the checklist for starting a new business looked something like this… – Choose your business name – Get your LLC set up – Buy your (dot)com – Hire a graphics designer to create a logo, business cards and website So, I set off checking one thing off the list at a time and feeling confident, excited and ready to get rolling.  First thing on…

Too many strategies could mean disaster - blog title

Too Many Strategies Could Mean Disaster

I am a HUGE believer in doing one thing until you figure it out to the depths before trying to add something else. I see too many women business owners trying to do every marketing strategy and idea they know of all at once and 99% of the time they are saying ” it isn’t working or it didn’t work”. Well… not even the greatest marketing idea in the world is going to work if you don’t fully implement it, test it, analyze the results, tweak it and re-implement it. It’s easy to just give up and say “it was too frustrating” “it didn’t work” and move on to the next one and the next one and the next one.. but it leads to “nothing works for me” “I don’t know how to do it” “I can’t because… blah, blah, blah.” This is a downward spiral which is likely to…

My Marketing Lesson From a Child

As soon as I got in line at Target, David perked up with, “I got the Monster movie and I’m going to watch it on my mom’s t.v.” He then showed me the movie and asked me if I knew the character’s names (which I did not). He then said “My name is David, what’s your name?” I told him my name and he quickly responded with “This is Jim, he’s my dad” followed by “What did you get today?” I told him about my steal of a deal on clearance jewelry (totally expecting our conversation would likely end there.. jewelry verses Monster Inc… come on.. LOL). But, David surprised me. “It’s very pretty.” Then as I suspected, David went back to looking at his movie but only for a moment before I hear David say “hello” to the cashier who responds with a “hello” and before she could even finish her greeting…

Coach Erin’s BIG Dream

I was asked a question by a client (I love when that happens) that made me sit, think, ponder and create. Her question was “Erin, what’s your BIG DREAM?” So, here it is. I have decided to share My Big Dream with all of you. MY BIG DREAM… I spend one day a month as a “pamper me day” getting my hair done, pedicure, manicure, facial, massage.. the whole works. My home is complete (no more remodeling to do), it’s completely decorated, everything is in top working condition, the yard is landscaped and well maintained. I am debt free and living a cash flow life. I have time to spend with my husband and my kids relaxing, exploring, learning and discovering. My husband and I are extremely close and have an intimate, spiritual connection that provides us both with love, passion, energy and enjoyment. My family and I enjoy 2-5 breaks/vacations…

Stop offering specials and make more money - blog title

Stop Offering “Specials” and Make MORE Money

I recently had a phone conversation with a client who was offering monthly specials and discounted packages for her services. We coached together for about five months and focused a lot on moving her toward not having “sales” or offering “discounted pricing”. It was a struggle and a challenge for her to stop as she was afraid clients wouldn’t pay her “full price” and then she wouldn’t have any clients. Throughout the year she was challenged many times with financial lows and wanted to do a “sale” but held back. She kept up on tracking her income and her hours worked and — here’s what she had to say when we last spoke. “I made $5,000 more this year than last year and my clients have paid an average of $8 more per hour than last year. I can’t believe I kept putting this homework off and not wanting to…

What To Post On a Facebook Page

Do you ever find yourself wondering “What should I post on my Facebook page?  If so, you’re not alone. Most start-up business owners and entrepreneurs who want to use Facebook in their marketing plan aren’t sure exactly what to post. So, to get you started I want you to think about your Facebook business page as making a salad and your Facebook posts or status updates are like the ingredients in your salad. Now, a salad isn’t just lettuce, it’s all the other “mix-ins” that make a salad a salad. Think about it.. who eats just lettuce and calls it a salad? So… you don’t want your Facebook Page to just be all one thing… you want to “mix-in” a few different ingredients… AND change up the ingredients because no one likes the same salad everyday – it just gets boring 🙂 Here is just a short list of possible…

How To Get More Testimonials

7 Ideas to get you more business testimonials from your clients 1. ASK! Yes, every once in awhile a client or customer will give you a testimonial without you asking but.. if you ask for testimonials you’ll get them more often than every once in awhile. 2. MAKE IT A HABIT, A ROUTINE, A PART OF YOUR PROCESS Make asking for testimonials a habit, routine or part of the process and you will keep consistent and gain more testimonials which will lead to more clients/customers.  Maybe at the end of every session/meeting with a client you ask them to share their experience or maybe a few days after you drop off their products you send them an email or give them a phone call and ask how the products are working.  At the end of your events or presentations have attendees fill out a survey/feedback form and include a box…

5 Reasons Your Business Isn’t Thriving

  1. You have your certification, your license, a great set of skills and plenty of knowledge. Yet, you haven’t found your focus. You haven’t claimed your expertise by narrowing the “who” it is that will receive the full abundance of what you offer. You haven’t identified the “what.” The problem/issue/challenge you solve. So you’re doing business without a target market , ideal client or a niche audience. Sure, you might be attracting a handful of clients on an inconsistent basis — but your left feeling like your marketing isn’t working. 2. Your marketing time and dollars are being spread over multiple marketing strategies. Instead of focusing your time, money and energy on one marketing strategy or method at a time. You move from marketing idea to marketing idea. You’re never really learning one marketing piece at a time. Your not taking the time to optimize each method before moving on…

During my Clarity Creator, Erin was able to take what I felt was disorganized thinking or a brain dump, and pull out key information, providing clarity.  We spent much of our time combing through client intake processes, examining what happens first, second, third etc. We also clarified who my clients are, and talked about building service packages. I gained a lot of clarity!

My session felt very comfortable and exceeded my expectations. If you’re thinking of working with Coach Erin, I would definitely encourage you to do so. The little time I've spent with Erin has been valuable and solidified my desire and decision to proceed further with coaching.
